New Magazine Articles Just Out

I don't have as much time to do magazine articles these days as I'm staying busy with my book projects, but I am currently working on a gear review article for Sea Kayaker and one that I completed a few months ago is just out now in the current (August, 2012) issue. That one was a review of some really interesting forward osmosis water filter bags, by Hydration Technology Innovations (HTI).  I tested both the freshwater variety and their seawater desalination filters and reported on them in the article.  You can pick up the issue in most bookstores where magazines are sold.  I'll be able to repost the article here and on my other blogs later, after this issue is no longer current.I also have an article in the current (July, 2012) issue of Southwinds magazine.  This is a feature about British catamaran designer James Wharram, who I met recently at the Wharram Rendezvous in Islamorada, FL in May.  I've been fascinated with Wharram's Polynesian-inspired catamaran designs for more than 15 years, and have built his Hitia 17 design, refurbished a Tiki 21, and am currently in the final stages of building a Tiki 26.  I've long wanted to meet him and sit down talk with him about his designs, and at last I had the chance.  You can read the full article and the rest of the magazine for free online at the link above, or as a downloadable PDF.  The print version of Southwinds is available at many West Marine stores, Gulf Coast and Florida marinas, and other establishments catering to southern sailors.
