Element is the name I chose for the 15-year-old Wharram Tiki 21 catamaran that I purchased after loosing my cruising monohull to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I completed the restoration of it and used it for daysailing and beachcruising out of Biloxi. The Tiki 21 was the first of James Wharram's "coastal trekking" catamaran designs - intended to be light enough to trailer, yet seaworthy enough to explore the offshore waters of the open coast. I've since sold the 21 to concentrate on building my Tiki 26. See highlights below, or click the links to read the full blog, all of which is archived online for future reference to other Tiki 21 sailors/builders.
Element II, a James Wharram designs Tiki 26, is my latest boatbuilding project. This blog is documenting the construction of the vessel, which began in January, 2007. I've chosen the Tiki 26 catamaran as the ideal boat for the kind of cruising and exploration I prefer to do. Island Time Online was my original started in 2005. I don't update this one anymore, as the Scott's Boat Pages blog is now my main catch-all blog for the kind of general and varied boating topics started in this one. I've even moved a few of the posts from here to the new one. I'm leaving all the orginal posts online as they were though, so if you're interested you can find the full version here: Island Time Online
Scott's Boat Pages is an ongoing commentary on boatbuilding, sea kayaking, and sailing and cruising in simple boats. In this blog I share with you my passion for the water and my perspective on all things nautical. Look for my thoughts on boat design, gear, and essential skills for exploration on both river and sea, and read reviews of equipment, books, and other online resources to help you break free of the shore.
